‘’The ability of music to express emotions is what brings me closer to the audience and this connects directly with my aim as an artist: to find the maximum range of colors possible on my instrument’’.
Gabriel is from Gijón, Asturias. At the age of 9, he began his studies at the conservatory of his hometown, where he developed the first phase of his musical career under the guidance of Juan Carlos Cadenas (leader OSPA). In 2015, he was accepted as a student in the class of cellist D. Israel Fausto Martínez Melero, in Seville, city of which he says: ‘’I was fascinated by its strong culture influenced by the sun and its Flamenco roots’’. He graduated cum laude in 2019.
Gabriel has received several awards: Young Performers Award of the Conservatory of Gijón (2015), Jose Gamez Chamber Music Competition (2017, Seville) and the Young Performers Award of the Conservatory Manuel Castillo (Seville, 2019), for which he has been able to enjoy solo performances. In the last one, with ‘’Gulda cello concerto’’.
His orchestral experience includes: Orquesta Joven de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias (Spain), Turku Philharmonie (Finland), Neue Philharmonie Munich (Germany). As a chamber musician he is currently the cellist of ‘’Libero Ensemble’’ and ‘’Florestan Trio’’.
In his repertoire he includes folk music from different countries because of how it connects to the stories and traditions of the people of a certain country or region.
Since 2020, Gabriel has lived in the Netherlands where he enjoys ‘’the cultural diversity and the space to find his own voice.’’
